CFA Pride wins Victorian volunteering award

Earlier today CFA Pride was announced as the winner of a Victorian State Volunteering Award.

The awards ceremony held at Parliament House seeks to showcase the commitment and impact of volunteer organisations and programs within Victoria.

Out of the four worthy finalists CFA Pride was awarded the top prize in the inclusion category.

This award was given to a volunteer program that encouraged or achieved the inclusion of individuals or groups of volunteers often excluded from the mainstream.

CFA Pride aims to support and promote a safe and friendly social networking environment for LGBTI members.

CFA Pride Ambassador and volunteer firefighter Russell Wright said that it was an honour to receive the award.

“Being nominated for this award really shows just how far CFA has come as an organisation - and winning is an even bigger bonus,” said Mr Wright.

“Traditional ideas about volunteering are being challenged every day and the reception we’ve received from all emergency services has been really encouraging.”
