CFA crews across the state are prepared to protect their communities over the Christmas period, as the weather heats up above 40 degrees in northern areas of the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting rain in eastern Victoria tomorrow (Friday, 23 December) which will dampen the ground and ease pressure on firefighters preparing for increased Fire Danger Ratings as temperatures rise. The forecast of storms on Saturday could potentially increase the risk of fire caused by lightning strikes.
The Bureau of Meteorology is also forecasting temperatures in the 40s on Christmas day and a cold front on Monday and wind change.

CFA State Duty Officer Craig Brittain said planning and preparation was well underway at all levels of CFA operations.
“From the State Control Centre to each and every brigade, we’re all monitoring conditions closely,” Mr Brittain said.
“We have dedicated resources including fire trucks, aircraft, and career and volunteer personnel to ensure communities are well covered if and when incidents occur.
“We have Incident Management Teams and Incident Control Centres at-the-ready, with a range of carefully planned strategies to manage a wide variety of scenarios that may arise.”
