Mildura locals can add fire safety to their shopping list from today to Thursday, with a CFA bushfire safety information hub stationed inside the Centro shopping centre.

Specialists in helping community members - whether they are residents, tourists or farmers - plan and prepare for fire will be on hand to answer questions, and to guide people through the inforamtion and resources on offer, including the FIreReady App for smartphones.

CFA Community Education Coordinator Kevin Sleep said that one of the best things people could do at this stage of the fire season was to have a face to face discussion.

“There are very few ‘one-size-fits-all rules’ when it comes to bushfire, which is why we always encourage you to come and have a chat, whether you’re a resident or a visitor to the area” he said.

“Everyone’s situation is different – where your property is situated can make a big difference to the degree and type of risk you might face and the preparations you need to make.”

“We’re more than happy to walk you through the basics, and advise you on how to plan to protect your home and family this summer.

Mr Sleep said that even people who had done quite a lot of preparation and planning could still benefit from stopping by to make sure they were on the right track and had all the most current updates and brochures.

“With the extremely hot conditions we've experienced recently, it's especially important to remain vigilant.

“If you’re in doubt about anything – anything at all, just ask,” he said.

The Mildura Centro display is part of a statewide fire safety roadshow being run over summer by CFA and involving a range of local partner agencies. It will be open throughout shopping centre trading hours.
