CFA firefighters stopped a grass and scrub fire in its tracks yesterday after it was threatening a nearby railway line at Corio.

CFA District 7 Senior Station Officer Geoffrey Brown said several trucks attended the scene near School Road about 2pm, Tuesday 29 July.

“The fire was about 4-5 square meters in size and crews did a great job to quickly contain the fire and stopped it from impacting the nearby railway line,” Mr Brown said.

Trains were notified of the incident and were slowed down while the firefight was carried out.

The incident was under control by 2.15pm.

The cause appeared to be from an abandoned camp fire.
