Approx 500 members the of local community gathered at the second ever “CFA Sunday” held by the Narre Warren Fire Brigade.

Many local families and friends enjoyed a day of sunshine in Narre Warren witnessing and participating in fire related activities for all ages.

Senior Firefighters and Junior Brigade members ran several structure and wildfire demonstrations with a very professional running commentary delivered by 1st Lt Travis Carter. The public audience witnessed first-hand how quickly brigade members donned Breathing Apparatus, then getting the wet stuff on the (simulated) red stuff. They were also treated to a demonstration of Narre Warren Tanker’s retro fitted burn over protection system.

A “Smoke House” was run by filling the stations BA room with smoke from a smoke machine. Public members were heard to say they were surprised by how disorientating the smoke layer was.
Mum’s and Dad’s alike tried their hand at getting dressed the quickest in turn out gear with many receiving a prize of a fire extinguisher or fire blanket for their enthusiasm.

Over 100 individual pieces of artwork were entered into the children’s colouring competition. Several Captain Koala Trauma Teddies were given as prizes to kids of various age groups.
The main training room was set up with presentations running all day on fire safety and education sessions run by F/F Damien Baker. This was a huge success with many members of the public commenting on how much they learned about fire safety.

Children of all ages played on the “Fire Engine” Jumping Castle and took the time to explore a vintage 1983 Mercedes Benz CFA Tanker supplied by the Fire Services Museum. Ambulance Victoria also provided a vehicle and Paramedic to chat to.

The brigade was successful in a grant for the day with money being spent on 20 fire extinguishers and 20 fire blankets which where given away during the day to members of the public who answered questions on fire safety. Trauma Teddy's where also purchased and given away to children who answered questions on fire safety. Narre Warren Catering Crew provided refreshments with a sausage sizzle and assistance from the City of Casey Youth Ambassadors. AJ’s Wonder Whippy provided ice creams for those with a sweet tooth.

Advertising for the event was with signage on the Stations exterior, Narre Warren Brigade Facebook site and local letter drops. Many residents visited after seeing the large colour electronic sign that was out all weekend.

Thanks goes to F/F Damien Baker, Lt Andrew Davey, Sec Shannon Davey and BASO Megan Angel for all their hard work to organize such a fantastic day, with thanks also to The City of Casey, Fire Services Museum Victoria, District Eight Headquarters, Southern Metro Community Safety, Ambulance Victoria, Bounz a Lot Jumping Castles, AJ’s Wonder Whippy and most importantly members and families of the Narre Warren Fire Brigade. Your assistance and hard work made CFA Sunday Narre Warren an outstanding success.
