CFA firefighters contained a fire to an oven in a chicken shop on Point Nepean Rd, Dromana overnight.
Twenty firefighters from Rosebud and Dromana brigades arrived at 4.10am, getting the fire under control in 10 minutes.
District 8 Rostered Duty Officer Andrew Turner said crews did well to contain the fire and limit damage to the double-storey shop.
"The oven was badly damaged and the building was smoke-logged, but the quick response from firefighters ensured it didn't spread," Mr Turner said.
Crews assisted with ventilating the property.
The fire was not suspicious and the local council is working with the property owners to determine the cause.
