Chirnside Park Fire Safety Day
Chirnside Park Shopping Centre once again hosted an annual ‘Fire Safety Day on 2.2.13. an event that gets bigger and more popular each year.
The display is attended by Lilydale Fire Brigade, Victoria Police and the Yarra Ranges Shire Council.
This year’s event was acknowledged as the most successful yet, with an estimate of over 2000 people going through the display. The event combined educational displays and an opportunity for the community to seek information and meet the local volunteers, police and council, as well as lots of fun and activities for children.
Lilydale Lieutenant Steve Campbell coordinated the CFA display. Lilydale trucks, Dandenong Ladder Platform, the Mobile Education Unit, Fire Simulation table, the Smoke House and Little Helicopter all drew large crowds. Lilydale volunteers manned an information marquee and ran a very busy sausage sizzle.
Chirnside Park Shopping Centre Marketing Manager, Natalie De Zyla, arranged for free fairy floss, snow cones and a jumping castle for the kids, as well as looking after all the advertising.
Victoria Police attended with their Mobile Command Unit for the public to take a walk through, members to meet and a Highway Patrol car to look over.
The combination of displays, activities and information enabled the emergency services to interact with the public, give out valuable fire safety advice and was met with a fantastic response from the community. All involved thought it was a great day that’s going to be hard to beat next year!
