Club Marine May Day
This May the Australian Volunteer Coast Guards (AVCG) along with their major sponsor Club Marine will be running their inaugural “Club Marine May Day” campaign to raise awareness and money towards critical activities such as safety patrols, monitoring, and search and rescue operations.
The campaign will be run nationally throughout the month of May with the hosting of a launch day on 2 May at the Docklands, Victoria Promenade at the end of Merchant St.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services the Honourable Kim Wells is confirmed to attend along with invites extended to Victoria Police, SES, Ambulance Victoria, Life Saving Victoria, Parks Victoria, CFA, MFB, TSV and the Port of Melbourne Corporation. The public is welcome to attend.
AVCG is the premier maritime search and rescue organisation in Australian. With 58 flotillas in six states, AVCG is responsible for countless rescues, assistance responses and monitoring. Beyond that, AVCG is a major provider of educational courses on topics such as boating safety and marine navigation.
AVCG is a completely volunteer based organisation. Each of its members donates their time, many of which are working full-time. Volunteers often have the additional task of seeking funding for equipment, training and other resources to make their operations possible.
Ray Campbell, AVCG’s National Commodore says this is a great opportunity for the organisation. “A lot of people are surprised to hear that AVCG relies predominately on donations to operate throughout the year. We respond to distress calls all day every day vie our 58 flotillas located around the country.”
Established in 1961 the AVCG has flotillas across Australia in Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales, Queensland and Northern Territory. Each flotilla will engage with this campaign with will run nationally and greatly impact the work of the AVCG’s.
Donations over $2 are fully taxed deductible with AVCG’s carrying full DGR status. Generating awareness and raising funds will greatly assist the AVCG in providing on-going rescue and training services.
