CO Update – CFA addresses issues with radios
We’ve had some issues recently with radio communications on the fireground, so today I’ll run through what we are doing to address these concerns in the lead up to summer.
Firstly, we have put together a dedicated team of technical and operational experts who have been working with the radio manufacturer (Tait) to understand the issues being reported.
The team has already identified a hardware fault in the microphones of some portable radios and these have been replaced. We are confident we will work our way through all the issues reported, but we need your help to improve the use of our radios.
Tait has produced a short video and our team has developed a one page Best Practice Guide (on Brigades Online/CFA Online) which will help us all to get better results from radio communications on the fireground.
These resources will be incorporated into relevant training programs, and I urge you all to take the opportunity to watch the video, include it in your training and place the one-page guide in a visible location.
If you have followed best practices and you are still experiencing issues with your radio, it’s important to send in a detailed radio observation report.
Thanks all, stay safe.
