CO Update – Stand up against domestic violence
This Friday (25 November) is White Ribbon Day and I would like to reinforce some really important messages around the issue of domestic violence.
At the start of November, 60 women had been killed in 2016 as a result of domestic violence.
Domestic violence is the most common type of assault inflicted on women. One in three women has suffered violence at the hands of someone they know.
These statistics are simply unacceptable in today’s society.
We all need to stand up, speak out and act to stop domestic violence. I encourage all of you to join the DCOs, ACOs and myself in supporting White Ribbon Day. Purchase a white ribbon pin and take the oath with us on Friday 25 November.
I’d also like to congratulate two of CFA’s program areas who won very prestigious awards last week:
- CFA’s Anglesea ‘Survive and Thrive’ Program (in partnership with Anglesea Primary School) – Resilient Australia School Award
- CFA Pride – Volunteering Victoria State Award (inclusion category)
I’d also like to acknowledge CFA’s Brigade Support Team, who were finalists in the innovation category of the Volunteering Victoria Awards.
All of these initiatives have achieved some really great outcomes, and once again congratulations to everyone involved.
For a full list of Resilient Australia Award winners visit the Attorney-General’s website.
Stay safe out there.
