Cobden Group recruiting success
Cobden Group brigades are optimistic they have likely recruited 10 new members during a recent Cobden Fire Station open day.
About 50 members from Bostocks Creek, Carpendeit- South Purrumbete, Cobrico, Ecklin and District and Elingamite-Glenfyne brigades attended the day with CFA information handed out to newbies interested in volunteering.
People were free to wander around the four-bay station and inspect the pumper, tanker and brigade-owned support vehicle and FCV.
Members also used the day as a training exercise which doubled as a demonstration, draughting using water from the underground rainwater tank.
“It was a good pre-season re-familiarisation for those who hadn’t turned out for a while,” said Cobden Captain Bill Nelson. “We’re going to be offering a Minimum Skills course soon to get these new members trained up while they’re raring to go.”
Cobden members recently celebrated the brigade’s 75th anniversary. The brigade turns out an average of 30 times a year.
