Community Fireguard's 20th birthday
CFA is holding an event to celebrate Community Fireguard’s 20th anniversary.
By Angela Cook
The event will take place on Saturday 20 April 2013 from 12pm to 4pm. It will be held at the Kalorama Recreation Reserve, Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Kalorama (Dandenong Ranges).
The Community Fireguard program works with individuals and groups to develop and implement fire safety plans and strategies that best fit their values and particular situation, and aims to establish self-reliant neighbourhood groups in high-risk areas, empowering residents to take responsibility for their own fire safety.
The program has grown steadily since it began in 1993, and there are now close to 1,200 active Community Fireguard groups involving up to 12,000 people across the state.
The birthday event will recognise those people who have participated and helped to make the program a success and celebrate the program’s past and its future. All Community Fireguard group members from across the state will be invited, along with past and present CFA members who’ve supported and delivered the program. In fact, all CFA members and their families are welcome to attend the event.
Following a formal opening of the event between1pm and 2pm, there will be kids’ activities such as rides, community education displays and family entertainment.
Come along and help CFA celebrate this milestone for our longest-running community education program.
