Consultative Committee holds second meeting

The CFA Performance and Policy Consultative Committee held its second meeting on Monday 16 January at CFA headquarters.

The Committee has established four working groups, each responsible for examining a key area critical to the future development of CFA.

Membership of these groups is drawn from existing Committee members, with subject matter experts invited to participate as required.
The Committee will engage directly with CFA volunteers, support staff and career firefighters about the future directions for CFA. The Committee will also work closely with the CFA Board to ensure strategic input into its work.

The working groups will be producing a work plan over the next month that will guide the Committee's discussion and will enable all CFA staff and volunteers to be involved and have their say.

Working Groups:

Modernising brigades and stations

Chair: Steve Warrington, CFA Chief Officer

Members: Allie Guegan, Volunteer Firefighter in Langwarrin; Bruce Taberner, Lead Learning & Development West Region; Dean Simmons, Operations Officer in Swan Hill; Michael Platt, Volunteer Firefighter in Sebastopol

Focus: Working Group to look at what opportunities exist to modernise our approach and make brigades/stations flexible enough to meet the needs of the community, and change with the community they serve.

Enhancing volunteerism

Chair: Craig Lapsley, Emergency Management Commissioner

Members: Allie Guegan, Volunteer Firefighter in Langwarrin; Bruce Taberner, Lead Learning & Development West Region; Dean Simmons, Operations Officer in Swan Hill. Subject Matter Expert: Ali Martin, Manager Volunteer Sustainability

Focus: Working group to look at what inputs we need (as CFA and as a sector) to make us more modern, flexible, and adaptive to support volunteerism, and increase volunteer accessibility for the diverse community we serve.

Service Delivery

Chair: Steve Warrington, CFA Cheif Officer; Stephanie Rotarangi, Chief Fire Officer, Forest Fire Management Victoria.

Members: Alec Carson, Volunteer Firefighter Snake Valley; Chris Hall, Operations Officer in South Warrandyte; Dean Simmons, Operations Officer in Swan Hill; Gwynne Brennan, Executive Manager Community Safety

Focus: Working group to look at what opportunities exist to modernise our service delivery model to maximise service delivery and meet the demands of the community it serves.

Training

Chair: Subject Matter Expert, Gregg Patterson, Deputy Chief Officer of Training

Members: Alec Carson, Volunteer Firefighter Snake Valley; Chris Hall, Operations Officer in South Warrandyte; Kris Wilms, Senior Instructor, Leadership & Management Development; Michael Platt, Volunteer Firefighter in Sebastopol

Focus: Working group to look at how we can maximise training to meet CFA and the sector’s needs, and the needs of our people.
