Creating Our Future Together - initial consultation ends
Further to the last blog, we can confirm the formal consultation period on the proposed conceptual changes closed at midday on Monday. We, along with the rest of the CFA senior leadership team, would like to personally thank you for taking the time to talk with us and share your thoughts.
As you would have seen from Fran Boyd's earlier message, Commissioner Wilson from the Fair Work Commission has handed down his decision in relation to the dispute with the United Firefighters' and, therefore, the first stage of consultation is now closed.
During the initial consultation period, we spoke with over 3,500 members from across all parts of CFA and have had 173 feedback submissions, which have included many detailed and considered group submissions. This is a phenomenal response and we are delighted with the amount of interest and participation in this process.
The proposed changes have clearly generated a lot of discussion and it's been fantastic to see your openness and willingness to provide your thoughts. It seems that the proposals have also kick-started a lot of great thinking into how we can improve CFA beyond just what's been proposed, which is excellent to see.
As the senior leadership team have mentioned many times over the past couple of months, we are not proposing change just for the sake of it. CFA needs to continue to evolve to ensure we are modern and sustainable and able to meet the needs of the community now and into the future. We know we can do things better to set CFA up for years to come, and the proposed model is just one of the ways we are trying to get there.
While the initial consultation period has now closed, this doesn't mean the end of the conversation about these proposed changes. We will continue to keep you involved and informed every step of the way, so that you know exactly what the changes, once decided, will mean for you and what happens next. We will be relying on you to help us flesh out the finalised model, and to implement it.
The Executive Leadership Team will now consider your feedback, thoughts and suggestions, and finalise our future model. We hope to be able to speak with you about the outcomes in October. Just as you have taken the time to provide us with considered thoughts, we will also need time to work through this information, so please bear with us.
