Crews control Plumpton grassfire
2.20pm CFA, DEPI and MFB crews have brought a 25 hectare grassfire at Plumpton under control.
Aircraft and groundcrews worked for around 6 hours as the fire burned in swampy grassland making access difficult. Crews and dozers will remain on scene for some time mopping up.
Smoke may still be visible and caution should be exercised by motorists along the Melton Highway.
The cause of the fire is being treated as suspicious and police are investigating.
11:30am Firefighters from CFA, MFB and DEPI are battling a 20 hectare grassfire at Plumpton (Tuesday, 7 January).
An Advice message has been issued for surrounding communities.
The fire is generating significant smoke which may hamper motorists, particularly on the Melton Highway.
The fire has been contained to farmland but is burning freely in swampy ground making access from the ground difficult.
Aircraft are attacking the head of the fire which is expected to subside as it burns towards ploughed fields. There are no threats to homes.
