CFA firefighters worked hard to bring a slow-burning grass fire at Strathewen under control at 1.50pm this afternoon (13 January).
Crews were called to the scene at Cottles Bridge at 1.20pm.
The fire was roughly 2 hectares in size and was burning in an easterly direction.
15 CFA trucks were on scene to tackle the blaze and crews will remain on scene for about an hour blacking out the fire and ensuring it doesn’t reignite.
A Watch and Act warning to nearby residents was downgraded to an Advice message at 2.05pm.
CFA Rostered Duty Officer Jayson Hirt said crews did a great job to contain the fire in a short period of time.
“Well done to all the crews involved, they did a brilliant job working together,” he said.
“This is also a timely reminder for all Victorians to be prepared. It’s easy to be caught off guard with this milder weather, however don’t be fooled. Fires can start and spread just as quickly if the conditions are right in milder weather too.”
15 CFA truck from Arthurs Creek, Doreen, Diamond Creek, Hurstbridge, Kangaroo Ground, Kinglake, St Andrews and Yarrambat attended the incident.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
