Firefighters have contained a large fire which burnt through 83ha of bushland and destroyed a house at Crib Point yesterday (Monday).
The fire broke out on the Mornington Peninsula around 1.30pm and was initially brought under control by 2.30pm before another fire flared up at 3.45pm.
An Emergency Warning was issued at 4pm advising residents of Crib Point, HMAS Cerberus and Stony Point to shelter indoors.
Around 30 fire trucks with 130 firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control by 11.30pm.
An Ericson Air Crane and two helicopters were also used to fight the fire.
One home and six sheds were destroyed when the 200m fire front swept through, while another home was damaged.
The 72-year-old owner of the destroyed property had evacuated her house and taken shelter in the bay.
She was picked up by boat and taken to shore where she was treated by paramedics for shock.
Further impact assessments are being carried out today.
Residents in the affected area were able to return last night, although some opted to stay with family and friends as power was lost to the area.
Approximately 350 people attended a community meeting overnight.
Crews including 10 CFA tankers and 50 personnel worked on the fire ground overnight to patrol and black out any hotspots.
A DELWP Dozer has been working to control an earth break on the western flank of the fire.
A Watch and Act message remains in place today.
A relief centre is open at Somerville Recreation Centre on Edward Street, Somerville.
CFA advises residents to monitor conditions and stay informed of the latest fire information, with a Severe Fire Danger Rating for the Central District.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
A Severe Fire Danger rating has been forecast across the entire state exclusing East Gippsland.
CFA advises Victorians to think about their fire plans for preparing and leaving early, this includes those people who are back at work this week or have children at home during school holidays.
