Crop fire burns over 500 hectares
A large grassfire north of St Arnaud in the state’s west has been contained.
CFA and DSE were called to the fire involving crop and grass stubble just after 3.00pm today, 27 December.
The fire took about an hour to contain and is estimated to have burnt through 550 hectares.
A number of aircraft and 29 trucks attended the incident with firefighters to remain on scene into the night to monitor the fire and black out.
An Advice message is still current for Gooroc, Cope Cope and Coonooer West as smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.
Police are also in the area managing traffic.
The cause of the fire will be investigated.
