Getting your 'ticket' to wear Breathing Apparatus isn't as easy as throwing an air cylinder on your back.

I was fortunate to tag along to see what it was like assessing firefighters from Doreen and Epping Brigades with their practical component of Breathing Apparatus Search and Rescue.

With the assistance of Volunteer Instructors and Assessors from District 14, you get to see what it takes to be assessed in becoming competent in wearing a Breathing Apparatus, and we walk inside a smoke filled building to search for any casualties, as well as completing a Primary and Secondary Search.

I also have a chat to Kris Wilms, Senior Structural Instructor for District 14, who gives an insight on what the day is all about.
