Report by Mark Gilmore Operations Manager District 2

Welcome rain fell across lots of the district in late March.

The Chief Officer has approved the lifting of Fire Danger Period Restrictions the week after Easter. The FDP will be lifted at 1:00 am on Monday 8th April 2013 in:

-       City of Greater Bendigo

-       Mt Alexander

-       Macedon Ranges

-       Central Goldfields.

District 2’s autumn planned burning program has commenced with lots of hazard reduction and some ecological burning being done. Get in touch with Terry Ouroumis if your brigade is planning a burn to get assistance with approvals and planning.

DSE planned burning has also commenced. Contact your local workcentre and get involved in these excellent Bushfire training opportunities as well as helping out our sister service with the enormous amount of burning they do.

The Honors and awards toolkit is now available on line and outlines the how and when of awards.

A reminder that federal awards such as National Medals require at least 6 months notice to organise properly

Aircraft have finished at Bendigo till next summer. Farewell and thanks for a great year of support.

 Fires and incidents

What a Huge summer. Well done to everyone you should be very proud of your excellent work. Lots of fires were stopped between 10-100 Ha showing that friefighters were effectively controlling fires that got up and run in the enormous amounts of dry grass fuel we had this year.

We are currently organising dates for the district debriefing. It will now be in 2 parts with one at Gisborne and the other at Bendigo. OO’s will shortly be contacting you with the dates and seeking information and representatives from each group to attend these sessions.

Work has started at 3 new stations at Newham, Lancefield and Marong and a contract has been signed for Mia Mia station

A new brigade support vehicle is being purchased by both Walmer and Maiden Gully

A new MCV is also on the horizon replacing the 30 year old Golden Square appliance.

Mark Gilmore will be on leave during April with Alun Hughson acting as Operations Manager.

Congratulations to Chris Eagle who has been promoted to Operations Manager in District 16.

We welcome Steve Smith to the District 2 Operations team. Congratulations to Steve who will now be the Operations Officer Reliever out of Bendigo. Please make him welcome.

Welcome to Jade Haslam who is the new Regional Operations Coordinator. She replaces Andrew Gill who is seconded to a Regional Officer role with SES. Welcome Jade and good luck Andrew.

Farewell to CFA Bushfire Investigation and Bushfire behaviour guru Fabian Crowe. He retired last month and we wish him well in the next phase of his career.
