Daylesford welcomes the Governor
Daylesford Fire Brigade yesterday had the pleasure of welcoming The Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria and Mr Anthony Howard QC to their station.
The informal visit took place in conjunction with her tour of Hepburn Shire.
As patron of CFA, it gave her the chance to meet with members of the local brigade and others within the Group, and hear first hand of their volunteering experiences.
It also provided the perfect opportunity for her to present the Horrockses Trophy to Captain Alistair Grant. This presentation related to a Valor Medal being awarded to ex-Captain Peter Gray as a result of him assisting in the rescue of a local woman from a mineshaft in her backyard in November 1949 - the trophy is presented to the brigade of which the medal recipient is a member. The presentation was particularly significant with Peter's son Russell and nephew David, both current or retired CFA members, also attending.
An afternoon tea followed the presentation, which allowed the Governor to mix and mingle with guests; all in all, it was a wonderful relaxed occasion that meant a lot to the brigade and will no doubt be a talking point for a while to come.
Thanks to Peter Bullen for the photos.
