UPDATE @ 4.30pm, 9 Oct: A man has been safely removed from a mine shaft in Diamond Creek by police, MFB and CFA rescue teams. He's now in the hands of paramedics.

Original post 3pm:

CFA and MFB are working on rescuing a man who is stuck down a mine shaft in Diamond Creek.

CFA was called to the incident near Fraser Street at 1.30pm and found the man, believed to be in his 40s, about 50 metres down the mine.

The man is not believed to be injured.

Firefighters are currently performing a rope rescue and hope to have him out within an hour.
