Diesel truck rollover in Deep Lead
CFA crews were called to a petrol truck rollover in Deep Lead this morning (10 October).
Crews were called at 8.00am to the incident on the Western Highway which is currently closed both ways.
Operations Officer Neville Collins said the double B truck was carrying over 45,000 L of diesel fuel.
“There is considerable amount of diesel which has spilled onto the road as a result of the accident,” Mr Collins said.
“The diesel has travelled approximately 500-700m down the Western Freeway and crews are working hard to contain to leak.
“HAZMAT vehicles from Corio & Ballarat City will be attending the scene this morning.
“Crews have done a fantastic job this morning and are expected to be on scene for an extended period of time today for monitoring.
“The driver of the truck was uninjured but was transported to hospital by Ambulance Victoria for observation.
Police are in attendance and the Environmental Protection Authority is making their way to the scene.
11 CFA vehicles from Stawell, Halls Gap, Glenorchy, Dadswells Bridge, Ararat, Corio and Ballarat City are in attendance.
