Digital listening sets release of tender
CFA has released a Request For Tender for the supply of new digital capable radio scanners (listening sets).
The release of the tender includes additional requirements that were identified during the evaluation of the original Expression of Interest and through consultation with VFBV.
One of these additional requirements includes an improvement to the technology for all radios used by Victoria’s emergency services. This requirement will also help bring CFA into line with Victoria’s Emergency Management Long Term Communications Plan.
CFA is looking for a radio scanner that will receive both digital and analogue transmissions and is compatible with other emergency services. We will choose a scanner that best suits the needs of our people and lasts for many years.
CFA will continue to work closely with VFBV during the RFT evaluation and product assessment. The tender process closes on Wednesday 21 January 2015. CFA will then review and evaluate the proposed scanners in consultation VFBV and our members.
This program follows the Regional Radio Dispatch Service project - a $66 million project that ensures CFA regional brigades have access to clearer, high-quality communications via a digital network.
During the 2014-2015 fire season, ESTA and CFA will continue to support analogue listening sets. Any area which currently has category 1 (direct connect to ESTA) analogue dispatch will continue to hear dispatch traffic on the analogue channel even if it's generated on the new digital system.
