District 15 - Relay for Life

Relay For Life is an overnight, community event for thousands of Australians who, relay non-stop as they celebrate cancer survivors, remember those lost and fight back against the disease by raising important funds.

From 2nd of March till 3rd of March 2013, 11 District 15 staff members started walking non-stop, taking it in shifts, walking with our baton, a ‘Small Town Branch’ painted red for 18 hours. Throughout the 18 hours there were significant ceremonies and activities to represent our loved ones that are no longer with us, our survivors and our carers including the survivors and carers walk, candlelight ceremony and placing tribute bags with lit candles in them along the track

Through the night John Ruyg spoke to Voice FM about our team and relaying.

Throughout the year we fundraised by having raffles and selling chocolates. Our goal was $1000. We reached our goal and raised a total amount of $1277.35

Our fundraising amount will go towards Cancer Council providing vital services for people with cancer and their families such as –

Cancer Council Helpline - specialist cancer nurses assist more than 50,000 across the state each year with cancer information and support.

One-to one support – Peer support program which connects you with a specially trained volunteer who has been through a similar cancer and treatment experience and understands what you may be going through.

Support and information packs and Cancer Council’s mission is to defeat cancer therefore funds go towards cancer research.

A big thank you to our team, all the helpers we had, as well to the people that donated to this fantastic cause including District 16 & District 17 for helping us out with the fundraising.

We’ve decided to do it all again this time next year. Fundraising will start again soon with heaps in mind. Our fundraising goal is $5000 which will enable us to “name” a specific research grant.

If you would like to donate and support our team please feel free to email our captain Julie Britten This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
