District 8 interfaith tour
On Monday 24 October, an interfaith multicultural tour commenced from District 8 Headquarters Dandenong starting with a presentation by Maha Sukkar from the Victorian Police Multicultural Unit on understanding Muslims and Islam in Australia.
After the presentation, there was a private tour for emergency services staff which gave them an opportunity to visit places of worship of the local faith communities, including:
• The Hindu Temple in Carrum Downs
• Sikh Gurdwara in Keysborough
• Turkish Mosque in Keysborough
• Sri Lankan Buddhist Temple in Keysborough
Attendees consisted of members from CFA, MFB, SES, Australian Federal Police, Victoria Police and City of Greater Dandenong.
This was an opportunity to see the diversity within the local area, focusing on the religious and faith dimension of multiculturalism.
It was an opportunity to be welcomed by a member/leader of each faith, and learn from them something of their belief, practices and community here in Australia.
