Donate to Queensland tragedy
A national organisation fundraising for the Ravenshoe tragedy is appealing for donations to support victims and their families.
CFA members can donate to this worthy charity through the GIVIT website.
On 9 June, a ute hit the rear of a popular café ‘Serves You Right’ in Ravenshoe, a small community in far North Queensland.
It caused an explosion and fire which filled the entire café in seconds, leaving many injured.
Two people died; 15 others are still in hospital and two more were released.
The patients are being treated at two hospitals - the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Cairns Base Hospital.
The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital is approximately 1650km away from victims’ families and their homes. Those in Cairns are also some distance away.
GIVIT are a not-for-profit organisation who kick-started the fundraising appeal. The money raised will go towards helping families cover the costs of travelling to see their loved ones in hospital.
So far, more than $14,000 has been raised.
