Doreen house fire
On 1 November, Doreen CFA turned out to a house that was well alight when crews arrived.
The telltale plume of black smoke visible from a distance confirmed this was not going to be a small job.
Arriving on scene, Incident Controller Captain Chris Maries had to deal with a large crowd of onlookers in a well-established part of Doreen as well as a house with flames coming from the roof.
Quick action in the early stages protected the exposures, while an external attack was directed at the main fire.
Units attending were:
Doreen Pumper Tanker, Doreen Tanker, Doreen FCV, Mernda Tanker, Whittlesea Pumper, South Morang Pumper, Wollert Support, Diamond Creek Car (TIC), Sunbury BA Support, Plenty Car.
Members of Victoria Police, crews from the power companies and the City of Whittlesea Building Surveyor also assisted.
Incident Controller Captain Maries commended all 39 volunteers who worked together as a team, which was testament to the volunteers' many hours of training.
Although the house was extensively damaged, many valuable items, important documents and family photographs were recovered.
Our thoughts are with a family who have lost their home and most of their possessions.
Fortunately, the residents were not at home at the time of the fire.
