Drouin Lions helps Drouin West to acquire BA
As the communities of Drouin West and Jindivick continue to change and grow, so does the risk.
Drouin West Fire Brigade is committed to ensuring that it can deal with any potential emergency. In light of this it was decided that Drouin West brigade would acquire breathing apparatus (BA) to not only increase its capability but also to provide additional protection for its volunteer firefighters.
District 9 Headquarters acquired some BA equipment and therefore reduced the cost to Drouin West. However, the brigade still needed a partner to help fund its portion of the cost. Drouin Lions Club, which is committed to helping community groups, generously donated $4,500 to assist with the purchase.
According to President Ros Ough, “Drouin Lions Club continues their dedication to supporting the community. Assisting Drouin West Fire Brigade acquire BA, is one of the many ways it gives back to the community”.
In addition to acquiring BA, five Drouin West members underwent an extensive training course to learn how to use BA correctly and safely. Drouin West now has seven fully qualified BA users.
As well as responding to emergencies in Drouin West and Jindivick, Drouin West is able to provide BA support to the neighbouring communities of Drouin, Warragul, Longwarry, Nilma North and Neerim South.
Captain Bruce Jewell, on behalf of the brigade expressed his thanks and acknowledged that with the support of Drouin Lions the community and the volunteers will be better protected.
