Early morning blaze at primary school

Early this morning (28 October) firefighters were called to battle a fire at the Ararat West Primary School.

Firefighters were called to the scene at Knee Bone Street shortly before 1.30am.

Operations Manager Bernie Fradd said when crews arrived on scene a wing of the school was fully alight.

“Approximately four classrooms have been completely destroyed,” said Mr Fradd.

“The brigades did an excellent job ensuring the fire did not spread beyond the wing involved.

“Around 50 firefighters were on scene at the height of the fire.

“Ambulance Victoria was in attendance for health monitoring due to the fairly intense nature of the firefight.

“Ararat Fire Brigade will be on scene until lunch time today mopping up.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage, Fire Investigators will be attending this morning."

Victoria Police attended and SES was on scene for lighting.

15 CFA vehicles from Ararat, Avoca, Ballarat City, Beaufort, Great Western, Langi Logan, Moyston, Stawell and Warrak attended.
