Early morning fire at Hastings

CFA firefighters attended a fire at the back of a Hastings church just after 4am on Friday, 31 March.

Crews had the fire under control within 15 minutes of attending.

Hastings Fire Brigade Captain Jim Atkinson said the fire was in an old church building at the rear of the current church.

“The weatherboard building was used as an opportunity shop. Internally the building has been gutted, but the building is still standing,” he said.

“Firefighters did a fantastic job at protecting the current church from the fire.”

The building involved in the fire was around 20m by 10m.

Fire investigators will look into the cause.

Trucks from Hastings, Bittern and a BA van from Frankston attended.
