Two people escaped uninjured after fire broke out in their Horsham house in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the house about 1am after the couple was woken by their smoke alarm.

District 17 Operations Officer Peter Bell said the house was extensively damaged after the fire broke out in the back of the house and spread through the roof.

It took firefighters from Horsham about 30 minutes to control the fire at the Gleed Street property.

Fire investigators are at the scene this morning to establish a cause.
