Eildon planned burn
The Eildon community will now be better protected from the threat of bushfire thanks to the completion of a 3000-hectare fuel reduction burn.
CFA and DSE burnt 600 hectares to complete the burn – which forms part of Eildon’s protection plan – last Thursday, 12 April.
“This was a joint burn with CFA providing asset protection to ensure the community and its infrastructure was safe at all times,” CFA Hume Region Vegetation Management Officer Phil Hawkey said.
The burn was on both public and private land.
The perimeter of the burn was mainly by hand lighting and once the edges were secure, aerial ignition was used.
“The operation involved DSE and brigades from across the Eildon and Alexandra areas. It was a great joint effort and has met our planned burning objectives to reduce fuel levels in turn protect life, property and the environment,” Mr Hawkey said.
