Eltham shines at open day
The Eltham Fire Brigade proudly showcased its new station to over 1,000 people at its open day on Sunday.
On what was a perfect summer’s day, Eltham Fire Brigade has hosted a series of activities for the local community with the centerpiece being the new Eltham Fire Station, officially opened just a couple of months ago.
With a wide variety of activities, including sausage sizzle, water activities, face painting, vehicle inspections and station tours, the community of Eltham and surrounds turned up in a steady stream throughout the day.
We even had a visit by Captain Koala who eagerly entertained the children.
The brigade also held a local Fire Ready Victoria (FRV) meeting where members of the public were encouraged to ask about their own fire risk and develop their own fire plans in the event of fire in the area.
Shortly after this, a fire behaviour demonstration was given using the burn table, allowing us to show just how quickly fire can move and how even the well prepared can be caught unaware by spotting and unpredictable winds. This demonstration gave the large crowd some good information and food for thought.
A great success for the day and thanks to the local community for their support of the event. We hope to do it bigger and better next year!
