Equipment boost for Portarlington
Story by Joanne Polley
Portarlington Fire Brigade has boosted its emergency response capability, adding a new Field Command Vehicle to its firefighting resources.
On Saturday May 18 Member for Western Victorian Region, David Koch MLC, officially handed Brigade Captain Darren Nisbet the keys to the 2013 Toyota Hilux.
Portarlington’s new FCV replaces the brigade's 2006 Nissan Patrol offering additional firefighting capabilities with the custom made back to enable transport of additional equipment and the brigades Quick Fill Pump.
The FCV offers an invaluable rapid response firefighting appliance with 4 x 4 capabilities.
It also enables immediate access and attack at incidents within the brigade's response area where there is limited access and in some areas where reticulated water is not available such as Coastal Reserves, Bellarine Rail Trail, Caravan Parks and Boat Harbours.
The brigade was able to fund the project to upgrade their vehicle through the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program (VESEP), generous donations from local community groups including both the Portarlington-Drysdale Lions Club and Portarlington Mussel Festival and brigade fundraising.
The official handover celebration was attended by Hon Lisa Neville MLA-Bellarine, Michael Tudball, CFA Board member, CFA Operations Officer Ian Beswicke, Sergeants David O’Connor and Paul Harbert from Victoria Police, John Emerson, President of Portarlington-Drysdale Lions Club, Lindsey Noss of Portarlinton Mussel Festival, CFA Bellarine Group Management and CFA Bellarine Group Captains.
