Equity and Diversity Review – message to members
CFA members have the opportunity to contribute to an independent review into equity and diversity being conducted by the Victorian Equal Opportunity & Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC).
This review, encompassing CFA and MFB, is independent and confidential.
It forms a key part of the State Government’s response to recommendations put forward by the Fire Services Review, and will provide valuable and objective insight into some critical issues.
We must all keep working towards a CFA which is genuinely inclusive, and which reflects the communities we serve.
I’d encourage you to read and consider the message below from VEOHRC commissioner Kristen Hilton.
Key information for CFA members including a link to the survey can also be found on Brigades Online/staff Intranet
Message from Kristen Hilton
I am pleased to let you know that VEOHRC has now started the Independent Review into equity and diversity within CFA and MFB.
The Independent Review will look at how to build and strengthen each organisation to make sure your workplaces are safe, inclusive and free from discrimination.
We want to hear from all of you about what works and what may need to change in your organisation to make sure there is zero tolerance for discrimination, including bullying, and sexual harassment.
These issues exist across many sectors. In many ways, emergency services are leading the way by being prepared to shine a spotlight on these issues and committing to positive and lasting change.
You provide a critical service to the community. You work to ensure our safety. I am committed to ensuring that every step is taken to make sure that your workplace is fair, respectful and inclusive.
We encourage you to tell us your experience and will not report on individuals or individual workplaces.
The Independent Review is open to hear from you until 18 November 2016.
Confidential Survey – CFA
This confidential survey is for all current personnel in CFA. There are different questions for employees and volunteers so we ensure our recommendations take account of the different needs, work and workplaces for everyone.
The survey is independently hosted by VEOHRC.
You can do the survey from any computer with internet access or you can call us and we can send you a copy.
VEOHRC has strict privacy provisions. No identifying information is shared with any other agency.
How will the Review work?
There are a number of ways to take part. We will be talking to and meeting with as many people as we can until November. There is more information on our website.
