CFA members have around six more weeks to take part in an independent review into discrimination and harassment being carried out by the Human Rights Commission.

Anyone who has had an experience, witnessed an instance of discrimination or even simply has a view on these issues is welcome to participate by either completing a confidential survey or arranging a discussion with the review team.

While the review encompasses both CFA and MFB, some questions that appear throughout the online survey will be dependent on particular role types.

Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton said the safety and anonymity of all participants who come forward was paramount, and that the team wanted to hear from CFA and MFB members about “what works and what needs to change.”

“It is important we hear from as many people as possible about both positive and negative experiences,” she said.

An online survey will stay open until 18 November 2016 , while members who would prefer to contribute via a phone call or face to face meeting can contact the review team directly.

All methods of participating in the review are conducted without the involvement or knowledge of CFA.

While the review is completely confidential, members will be asked to indicate their type of role at CFA – this will help the commission to put together a meaningful report and action plan at the end of the review.

The Independent Equity and Diversity Review into CFA and MFB is being carried in response to recommendations from the Fire Services Review. A final report will be made publicly available in mid-2017.
