Upwey members compete in the 2012 Eureka Challenge.

Today 18th November 5 members from Upwey competed in the exhaustive challenge to climb 88 floors of the Eureka Tower as fast as their legs could carry them.

This was completed wearing full structural ensemble whilst donning Breathing Apparatus. Two members took the challenge even further to see how many flights of stairs they could complete on one cylinder. Firefighter Sean Radford came very close to completing the entire challenge making 84 floors on the one cylinder. Firefighter Noel Nealon completed 67 floors on the one cylinder.

This was a great result and effort which consisted of many early morning training sessions on the 1000 steps in Upper Ferntree Gully. Team "Stair Troopers" during the course of their training generated a huge following and support network by the many people they came across during their training.

A big thank you must go out to the many supporters and sponsors who made this possible with the ultimate goal to raise money for two great charity organisations - Whitelion & Interplast.

Below are the official times for the challenge:

3rd Lieutenant James Butler - 22minutes 51 seconds

FF Noel Nealon - 24 minutes 3 seconds

FF Shane O'Brien - 29minutes 41 seconds

FF Sean Radford - 22 minutes 33 seconds

FF Ken Bulkeley - 22 minutes 54 seconds
