A round robin Hazmat training exercise was held in Ballarat on Sunday 26th May.

Crews from Ballarat City Staff & volunteers, Ballarat, Buninyong, Wendouree & Sebastopol attended some small hazmat incidents, then finished off the day with an "all in" large chemical spill at an industrial complex.

Attending crews were initially responded to a loud hissing sound coming from a TAFE training centre, which turned out to be an Acetylene cylinder leaking. The second incindent was reported as a strange smell near the local ice works which was an amonia gas leak. (Yes it is warm enough in Ballarat to warrant such an industry!)  The day concluded with a leaking 1,000 litre drum of liquid Styrene at an industrial complex.

The days exercise ran smoothly and was coordidnated by Group Training Officer Alistair Cuzens. A debrief and BBQ lunch was held at Ballarat City Fire Station at the conclusion of the exercise.

Members attending said they got a lot out of the day, and it was great being able to train with all of the brigades within the Group on a single incident, and were looking forward to the next exercise.
