It was a huge weekend in Ballarat with tens of thousands of people flocking to Ballarat for the annual Ballarat Begonia Festival.
With record breaking warm weather the Ballarat Botanic Gardens were bathed in sunshine for the entire long weekend.
Monday’s Begonia Parade was a huge hit with 52 entries winding their way along Wendouree Parade in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
Eureka Group Brigades comprising of Ballarat, Ballarat City, Buninyong, Sebastopol and Wendouree took part in the 2013 Courier Begonia Parade on Monday.
With over 1000 participants in over 50 entries this was the biggest parade in years and the crowd that gathered to watch
Ballarat Fire Brigade juniors did a fantastic job as they walked along side of CFA vehicles handing out stickers and tattoos the 1000’s of people that lined the parade route.
CFA volunteers, Captain Koala and Smokey the smoke alarm mascot received an enthusiastic response and cheers as they travelled along Wendouree parade.
Eureka Group Officer Bill Cook said “I was pleased to be part of the crew that represented the CFA in the Begonia Festival. The crews that attended from the Eureka Group brigades were also proud to represent their brigades and the variety of vehicles that we have in the group in the parade.” Bill also said “ given the hot weather I was very impressed by the size of the crowd and the appreciation shown to us as we made our way along the parade route and we are looking forward to next year’s Begonia Festival parade.”
