CFA firefighters responded to reports of a gas explosion around 5.20pm (1 November) in Bates Avenue in Upper Ferntree Gully.
CFA District 13 Operations Officer Greg Christison said a man was in his shed when the incident occurred.
“As a result of the explosion there was a small fire which was quickly extinguished,” he said.
“Crews at the scene are conducting atmospheric monitoring and the cause of the explosion is being investigated.”
CFA crews from Hallam, Boronia, Ferntree Gully, Upper Ferntree Gully and Upwey attended with police, ambulance and WorkSafe.
