What binds CFA members is the common goal to protect lives and property, but you’re a diverse bunch. Every member has a story and Faces of CFA introduces you to just some of those stories.

Adam Wensley, North Hamilton Fire Brigade

What is your brigade role?

I’m a firefighter.

Why did you join CFA?

To help serve the wider community and help make a difference.

What do you do for a living outside of CFA?

I’m a plant operator firefighter for a private forestry company. A typical day would include fire break clearing, weed control and checking undergrowth make sure it’s as ready for fire as it can be.

How long have you been a member of CFA?

Two years.

What was the first incident you attended?

It was a powerpole fire.

What incident has had the greatest positive impact on you and why?

There was a grassfire at a farm on Christmas Eve. We were able to save all the buildings and the farmer had minimal damage to his property. Just the happiness we brought to the farmer by saving his property was a really positive experience

What are your hobbies?

I like outdoor activities like bushwalking, rock climbing and abseiling. I enjoy being outside with the kids and taking them to the park and generally spending time with family.

What are your favourite things about CFA?

It’s the mateship, the training and learning new things. We’re a pretty close knit brigade. We socialise outside the brigade and a lot of us work together.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining CFA?

Do it; it's a fantastic organisation.

Do you know a CFA member other members would love to read about? Complete this question-and-answer form with them, adding plenty of detail about their time in CFA and the role they play in their community. Please then submit it with a photo so we can feature them as our member of the week.
