What is your brigade role?
Communications officer
Why did you join CFA?
I joined CFA when I met my now-husband Luke who’s now the Rochester captain. I hung around the brigade, developed an interest in what they did in the community and wanted to help out.
What do you do for a living outside CFA?
I work with adults with disabilities and have recently given birth to Rochester’s newest member, our son Harry.
How long have you been a member of CFA?
Close to eight years.
What incident has had the greatest positive impact on you and why?
There hasn't been just one incident. I think all the ones I’ve been to have played a part in who I’ve become. You see how the community pulls together when times get tough.
It's not the thanks you get for going to an incident that makes you feel you've done a good job; it's the appreciation you feel as a team when a job’s over and the community feels safe again, whether it’s from fire or flood. It’s just the pride you feel helping out within the community.
What are your hobbies?
Playing games, getting together with friends and looking after Harry.
What is your favourite thing about CFA?
The camaraderie within CFA – it's like one big family. It’s the support the brigade shows when times get tough for one of its team.
When I had Harry I had a few problems, but the support within our brigade got me through a rough patch and it was amazing.
What would you say to someone thinking of joining CFA?
I would say join, it’s fun . It’s sometimes hard work but knowing you’re doing your best to help someone who is in need is an awesome feeling. You get to meet a range of different people and become great mates with them.
Who wouldn't want to be part of such a great big CFA family!
