What binds CFA members is the common goal to protect lives and property, but you’re a diverse bunch. Every member has a story and Faces of CFA introduces you to just some of those stories.

Rob Waters, Montrose Fire Brigade

What is your brigade role?

I’m the captain.

Why did you join CFA?

A couple of my friends were in the brigade. I was invited up to the station and given the tour. Little did I know that this was the start of a fantastic journey.

What do you do for a living outside CFA?

I’m a director in an electronic security business. I network with a lot of people and help with their security needs.

How long have you been a member of CFA?

For 16 years.

What incident has had the greatest positive impact on you and why?

Helping people in their time of need and providing a level of support and compassion when they’re not having a great day is a really positive feeling. I also love seeing the newer members develop and experience the range of things we do in the fire brigade. It’s very rewarding.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy spending time with the family. I love playing Lego with the kids and reading books. I also enjoy our CFA fitness classes and the positive environment that comes with it.

What is your favourite thing about CFA?

Very easy for me.... It's the people I work with.

What would you say to someone thinking of joining CFA?

CFA is a fantastic organisation. There are many things to learn and experience. It’s not only about fires and incidents but about life skills as well. The fire brigade environment is very addictive and you do some amazing things with your peers and friends. The rewards are priceless so give it a try!
