Fancy stepping back in time?
Together with Sovereign Hill, Grampians Region will be hosting a very special series of events showcasing the history of firefighting in the gold rush era.
CFA and Sovereign Hill are both an integral part of the Grampians community so we’ve teamed up to share our combined passions (of history and firefighting in case you were wondering :-) more widely with locals and visitors to the area.
We’re joining forces to prepare an exhibition on the history of firefighting which will feature in the Gold Museum for three months later this year, as well as firefighting re-enactment activities in the outdoor museum during Fire Action Week 2013 (most likely to be some time in November 2013).
So we’re calling on members early, to see if you have any memorabilia, equipment or stories you’d like to share about the history of firefighting. Alternatively if you’d like to get involved in the outdoor activities we’re planning, this could involve dressing up in firefighter uniforms circa 1850’s style, we’re currently taking expressions of interest.
As a sign of thanks, Sovereign Hill will also kindly offer all CFA members displaying an ID card with free entry to the park during Fire Action Week.
We’re looking forward to celebrating our history and the contribution generations of firefighters have made before us to life in early Australia. So please join us!
