Fatal townhouse fire in Dandenong

Just before 8am on Saturday 1 October CFA crews from Dandenong and Hallam responded to multiple calls of a townhouse fire.

Senior Station Officer Darren Padgett from Dandenong brigade said the fire was showing en-route. When they arrived paramedics were starting to treat some of the occupants who were suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

Crews began an aggressive attack on the upstairs section of the building when they were told an infant was unaccounted for. Smoke logging was quite thick in the top section and one firefighter suffered an ankle injury when a small section of the floor gave way. He was transported to hospital for treatment.

Sadly, firefighters found the infant in the upstairs section deceased. Fire investigators are on-scene with Police trying to establish the cause of the fire.
