CFA crews responded to house fire in Ferntree Gully just before 10.30pm on Tuesday, 31 January.
CFA District 13 Operations Officer Colin Brown said the Kingston Street house was fully alight when firefighters arrived.
The single storey brick veneer house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
The fire was called under control just 20 minutes later.
Fire investigators from CFA and police will look into the cause this morning.
Five trucks attended the fire from Boronia, Ferntree Gully and Scoresby as well as a Breathing Apparatus van from Bayswater.
