CFA is running four information sessions across Victoria for people who are considering a CFA firefighting career, to learn more about this diverse role.  

Sessions are scheduled in Keilor, Morwell, Wangaratta and Mildura over the coming weeks.

At each session, CFA career firefighters from integrated brigades will share their experience and advice during the free two-hour sessions.

Firefighter Recruitment Manager Martin Penrose encouraged local women and men who are curious about what’s involved with this dynamic and rewarding career, to attend a session.

“These sessions are great opportunities to come along and meet career firefighters who live and work in your community,” Mr Penrose said.

“We welcome women and men from all backgrounds and interest levels to attend a session to find out more about the application process, recruitment training and what it’s like to work at a CFA fire station.

“The steps involved to apply must be taken very seriously and applicants need to understand there’s a lot more to becoming a firefighter than submitting a resume and going for an interview.

“Our career firefighters have worked really hard on building physical strength, study routines and communication skills to successfully move through the application process and into a long term training and education regime.

“We encourage anyone considering becoming a career firefighter to do their research, which includes attending an information session, so they’re thoroughly prepared, giving themselves the best opportunity to move through the application process successfully.”

CFA career firefighters are responsible for community safety education, supporting and mentoring volunteers, continuously building skills and attending a range of incidents including rescues, chemical HAZMAT, structure or bush fires, and road accidents.

“The work-life balance is excellent, not to mention the sense of satisfaction and reward you get from helping and working together with the community,” Mr Penrose said.

Sessions will run in the following locations:

Keilor – Thursday, 16 March (bookings closed)

Morwell – Thursday, 23 March

Wangaratta – Thursday, 30 March

Mildura – Friday, 31 March
