Victorian community members have only two weeks left to enter their fire projects in the 2016 Fire Awareness Awards.

A steady flow of applications has been received since entries opened on 30 June, with nominations closing on Thursday 15 September.

Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) Acting Chief Fire Officer Darrin McKenzie called on people to nominate the incredible work of fellow Victorians.

"It is great to see so many entries from across the state and we look forward to many more coming in during the final two weeks before applications close."

"The awards are a perfect chance to stop and reflect on the great work happening in local communities across the state. We are very fortunate to have such committed individuals working in the sector, and this deserves to be recognised.

The awards are managed by Victoria’s three fire agencies – Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB), Country Fire Authority (CFA) and DELWP – and supported by RACV Insurance, ABC Local Radio and Emergency Management Victoria.

The Awards recognise projects that demonstrate how Victorians are helping to reduce the incidence and impact of fire across the state.

Awards Categories include:

  • Access and Inclusion
  • Community-led Preparedness
  • Community-led Prevention
  • Education
  • Innovation and Design
  • Media
  • Recovery
  • Fire Services – Local-led Prevention and Preparedness
  • Fire Services – Partnership

RACV, a long term supporter of the Fire Awareness Awards, provides a $10,000 award to the best entry delivered by community groups, schools, not-for-profit organisations, volunteer or individuals from community categories. There are also three special incentive grants of $2000.

Entries for the 2016 Fire Awareness Awards close 15 September 2016. Recipients will be announced at a presentation evening on 1 December 2016.
