On Monday 4 December a number of diverse projects were recognised at the 2017 Fire Awareness Awards.

The annual Awards were held on Monday 4 December. They were initiated in 1983 and aim to recognise the extraordinary achievements of community groups, fire and emergency services agencies, shire councils and industry to reduce the effects of fire across Victoria.

Run by Victoria’s fire service agencies CFA, Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) and Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP), award categories include Community Learning and Knowledge, Access and Inclusion and Innovation.

Winners for the 2017 Fire Awareness Awards are:

RACV Insurance Most Outstanding Award and Community Learning and Knowledge Award

Monterey Fire Ready- led by Monterey Secondary College, Magenta Safety Training & Parks Victoria

Access and Inclusion (Community)

Balmoral Fire Connect- led by Southern Grampians Glenelg Primary Care Partnership

Community Prevention and Preparedness Award (Community)

Cape Otway Fuel Reduction and Ecological Burns Program- led by Conservation Ecology Centre

Recovery Award (Community)

Barnawartha-Indigo Valley Bushfire Recovery- led by Indigo Valley Bushfire Community Recovery Committee

Government and Industry Diversity Award

Asylum Seeker Employment Pathways Project - led by DELWP and St Joseph’s Flexible Learning Centre

Government and Industry Partnership Award

Wiyn-murrup Yangarramela, fire spirit comes back- led by Corangamite Catchment Management Authority and Wiyn-murrup Yangarramela Working Group.

Innovation Award
